Palimpsest (2001) for digital media
|
Palimpsest uses the slow movement of Beethoven's String Quartet No. 15, Op. 132 as basic source material and applies extensive audio processing to create rich textural layers which emphasize the quartet's prominent resonant frequencies. This processing is subtly reduced over time to provide brief glimpses of the underlying string quartet, hence the title Palimpsest. During a performance, the sounds are dispersed through five small loudspeakers arranged in an arc on the stage.
